Jose de las Heras

jose de las herasJob: Research scientist, genetics. Contrary to some rumours, no, I didn't get into this to be able to clone my beautiful neighbour (I had to set the record straight).

Started playing: A long long time ago, although unfortunately it doesn't show. Initially just trying to get a particular girl's attention (sad or what?). Then I forgot about the girl and stuck with the guitar. Selftaught, making progress very very slowly indeed.

Main gear: Fender Stratocaster (mexican, Richie Sambora model in white) which is my current favourite, with modified wiring; japanese Squier Telecaster; Yamaha AEX502 (nice P90s); Gordon Smith Graduate 60 (nice alternative to a Les Paul, and the coil taps make it very versatile - but still weighs a ton); Gordon Smith GS1 (simple and to the point, great guitar); Arirang strat copy (heavily modified, with a new neck among other things); Lyon (by Washburn) bass; and a Kay guitar that I keep I'm not sure why.

At home I play either through a J-Station into mixer inti hifi, or through a Boss GX700 which goes either to the mixer or into a 6W Fender Vibrochamp. This little amp is a jewel, beautiful creamy clean sound. To jam with others I use the GX700 into the clean channel of a 60W Electar Century 60RD, this is loud enough and it doesn't sound half bad (I hate the lead channel's sound on this amp). I also own a little 12W Peavey Audition 20, which I seldom use (the sound is not that great), but I keep it as it can be used with an external battery, and it's very portable: play anywhere.

Favourite music: Where to start? Boston (before turning to biology I started studying engineering, and looked up at Tom Scholz in awe...), Jeff Healey, Gary Moore, Satriani, those harmonised Iron Maiden guitars, Thin Lizzy, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Del Amitri, Mike Oldfield, Queen, Bob Marley, Uli Jon Roth, Michael Schenker, Al Di Meola...
